Medications that kept me alive

From July 17, 2018, also known as DAY ONE, I have been taking multiple medications to keep me alive. Some are antibiotics for the pneumonia and sepsis. Some are for blood pressure. Some are for my heart. And some are for the nerve damage. Last week, first week in January, the doctor said I could stop taking the antibiotics for the pneumonia since there was no change in my lungs over the last six weeks, since my last appointment.

I have to say that my amputated toes still hurt. They kill me. It feels like taking a rubber band and twisting it as hard as you can around your toes, then try to squeeze your foot into a shoe two sizes too small, then set it on fire and have it run over by a Mac truck. That is my pain level EVERY second of EVERY day. The medications help a tad, but I have constant pain.

They amputated my left toes first and then two weeks later amputated my right toes. My left foot didn’t hurt as much as my right foot. The doctors said that my right foot is hyper-nerve-sensitive and that’s why my right foot hurts much more than my left.

When I woke up from surgery from my left foot, I was laughing and talking with family and doctors just fine, but I woke up from surgery on my right foot crying instantly because of the pain.

WARNING! THE NEXT FEW IMAGES ARE BEFORE AND AFTER MY AMPUTATION OF MY LEFT FOOT.

The bottoms of my feet show how the lack of oxygen turned my toes black. This is before amputations.

After the surgeries, while in the hospital, I was given some medications such as Oxycodone, Percocet, Fentanyl, Morphine… I really didn’t want to be on such strong drugs, but it was supervised and taken as directed. I was easily weened off of those drugs, but I’ll admit that they helped with the pain tremendously!

I had stopped using my nebulizer but now that I am not taking antibiotics for the pneumonia, I started the nebulizer treatments again and they seem to be moving stuff from my lungs. I bought a nebulizer that my doctor suggested and it works great.

These are the meds that I was taking, each day, 43 pills!

Morning medications:

  • Cefdinir – 1 capsule = 300mg
  • Iron – 1 pill = 325mg
  • Gabapentin – 3 capsules = 900mg
  • Advil – 4 pills = 800mg
  • Magnesium Oxide – 1 pill = 250mg
  • Metoprolol – 1 pill = 25mg

  • Nebulizer with Albuterol Sulfate – 1 vial = 3mL

Noon medications:

  • Gabapentin – 3 capsules = 900mg

  • Metronidazole (Flagyl) – 1 pill = 500mg
  • Lyrica – 1 pill = 75mg
  • Tylenol for arthritis – 1 pill 650mg
  • Melatonin – 2 pills = 10mg
  • Nebulizer with Albuterol Sulfate – 1 vial = 3mL

Midnight medication:

  • Tylenol for arthritis – 1 pill 650mg

I’m off of the antibiotics now. So my pills have decreased a little. The Gabapentin and Lyrica help with nerve damage, but not really. I’m always in pain.

My daily pills and heart monitor. I keep things very organized.

This is the basket of all the cleaning products I use to wrap my feet. Gauze, tape, xeroform, saline water and bandages.

So, as you can see, my daily routine is quite extensive. It takes me double the time to get ready in the morning because of the wrapping of my feet.

Thank you for reading. Your positive thoughts and comments are always so nice to receive.

Have a great day!
