This was a good challenge. I got it done in one afternoon. While all the glasses were in the dishwasher (the ones on the top shelf hadn’t been used in a long time and were dusty!), I cleaned the birdhouses and brass pitcher and platter above the cupboards.
I definitely have some very old glassware. I think some of these glasses are probably 20 years old. When I was putting them back on the shelves after they came out of the dishwasher, I held each one up to the light. I was amazed at the scratches and cloudiness!
I’m not sure what I’m going to do with my glasses when I get a new set. Maybe put them in the garage sale collection?
I put soft shelf liner down on each shelf before putting the glasses back on the shelves. I put the tall glasses on one side and the tumblers on the other half of the bottom shelf. The second shelf is for glass mugs with handles and glasses with beer labels (we have so many!).
Not sure what I’ll put on the top shelf. I was thinking of stuff that has to do with drinking like straws. If this cupboard was wider I could put the plastic drinking cups and travel mugs right next to the glassware. We shall see!
One more thing. Before you discard or give away any of your glassware, check to see if it is valuable first. I have a book from my days of having a table at the Undercover Antique Mall and I would reference it whenever I came upon something I thought had value at a garage sale. I bought several vases for 25 cents each and then sold them on eBay for $25 each.
