Will we have the right kind of winter weather to go ice fishing at camp this year? I love ice fishing at camp!
I have been going fishing ever since I can remember. I’ve learned from the best–my father! One time my father asked me to hold the container of worms (open water fishing) and I opened the cover and started playing with all those big earthworms! LOL. Not something I’d do today. When I go ice fishing, my father takes care of all my traps and watches me “set” any fish that pulls on my line.
When it’s really cold outdoors, we have a fire on the beach. Sometimes friends will come by with their snow machines if we have snow cover. We bring snow shoes and cross country skis for something to do in between “flags.” Our best traps come from Jack Traps in Monmouth. One of my Christmas stocking stuffers that I can count on from Santa every year is my fishing license. Woohoo!
My brother has a winter shelter that we use to get out of the wind when ice fishing. We usually don’t set it up at camp. He brings it when he goes ice fishing at Moosehead each year. You can check out this Eskimo brand tent at my Cabela’s affiliate link. It’s a large and roomy tent where you and your friends can warm up when you’re spending a whole day out on the ice.
My father made the front page of the local newspaper on opening day of open water fishing on April 1, 1983. He caught these two fish in Lake Auburn.
Visit my Cabela’s affiliate page to see ice fishing gear you need for a successful outing. Cabela’s lets you order by 2pm for same day pick up in store or curbside at their Scarborough store!
