Maine is also the second coldest American state in the SPRING as well. Maine is in the top ten coldest states during the winter and the absolute coldest during the spring.
Geographically Maine is bigger than the other five New England States combined. To put things into perspective, Maine is 35,385 square miles. That’s wicked big!
Maine’s annual lobster yield is nearly 100 million pounds, nearly 90 percent of the nation’s lobster supply. The first lobster was caught over 400 years ago. The first Maine lobster catch was recorded by James Rosier in 1605.
Maine is the only state in the country whose name is only one syllable.
Maine was the first state to ban alcohol during Prohibition. Even more interesting? The Portland mayor at the time eventually ran for president on the Prohibition Ticket.
