My Ragdoll cat shows no interest in drinking water. I have resorted to mixing a little bit of water into his canned food and into his dry food at times.

There is a brand of dry cat food that is “basted” and the gravy needs to be released with water. He eats that watered dry food, so that makes me happy.
The vet noted that cats in the wild sometimes go to a drinking hole at night and so they aren’t often seen drinking water.
Read about pets and drinking water at PetMD.
From that page: “Consider a pet water fountain. Cats innately look for running water, and a water fountain provides continual fresh water. An added benefit is that you don’t need to leave your faucet trickling throughout the day. It is important to keep these water fountains clean, to continue providing fresh water to your cat.”
All my other cats: another Ragdoll, Himalayans and Tigers, have all drank water from their water bowls.
If you want to know more about Ragdolls, this information comes from WebMD:
“Ragdolls are great family cats that will quickly form friendships with your other pets and play patiently with your children. They’re very tolerant and won’t mind being dressed up and carried around as part of your kid’s games. In fact, Ragdolls are often described as a dog-like cat breed due to their easygoing and sociable personalities.”
I had heard about water fountains for cats and so we went to Petco in Auburn and looked at what was in the store. The same fountains we researched online are available at the Petco store and its online store.
I was anxious to set it up and see if our Ragdoll would take to drinking from it. It was easy to set up. I removed the untouched water bowl from the cat’s food spot and placed the fountain instead. Plugged it in, turned it on. Not too noisy. You have the option of keeping the butterfly in the flowing water to create fountains or remove the butterfly and let the water percolate in the fountain (less noisy).
Well, I hate to say it, but the cat did not drink any water. Not that I could see. But at the week mark, the water was low so I emptied and washed the fountain before adding fresh water. I’ve been using bottled water for the cat since day one and the fountain uses three 16-ounce bottles.
Maybe the cat drank some of the water from the fountain at night when no one was around, but I doubt it. Still, I’m keeping the fountain running so he always has a source of fresh water.
