What is Mother’s Day all about? How did it get started? From the Library of Congress files:
Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, motherhood, and the influence of mothers in society. In 1908, Anna Jarvis holds a memorial service at a West Virginia church to honor her mother, Mrs. Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis, who passed away three years prior. Philadelphia newspaper publishers latch onto the idea and widely promote a day for honoring mothers, to be held on the second Sunday of the month of May.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12 this year. If you’re lucky enough to still have your wonderful, loving mother in your life, have you thought about what you’re going to get her? If you’re like me, you want to give her the world!
But on a more practical note, I am also fortunate that I have access to her house so I can walk around and snap pictures of her favorite products such as her favorite lipstick and perfume. I can take note on whether or not she needs a new carpet in front of the door or sink. I can look at her sneakers and see if she needs a new pair and find out what size she wears.
Here are some of my ideas for a great Mother’s Day gift in case you are drawing a blank.
My mother always tells my brother and I not to spend any money on her, that she just wants our company. Sometimes my brother and I will put our money together and get her a really big gift. I know she wants a patio set and there’s a patio dining set at Walmart for less than $300! When you buy furniture from online retailers, expect “some assembly required.”

Actually, most brick-and-mortar retailers also have a floor model, but you go home with a boxed version to put together. So that’s a really great gift if you buy the furniture AND put it together!

If your mom wears make-up and you know her favorites, that’s a nice gift. Make-up can be expensive! If you don’t know her favorite brands and colors, a make-up bag is a nice gift. My mom replaces her make-up bag every few years. She keeps it on the bathroom counter and when company comes she can easily put it away in the cabinet under the sink.
