I was getting some food items out of the pantry to make dinner tonight and I picked up a jar of my homemade vanilla to move it but I wasn’t holding the bottle straight and the vanilla leaked from the bottle cap because it does not have a good seal. I need to get some of the flip-top cap bottles that I posted about!
Homemade vanilla takes between four to six months for the flavor of the vanilla beans to infuse the vodka. If you’re thinking of making vanilla to give as Christmas gifts, plan now! The longer the vodka absorbs the flavor of the vanilla beans, the better!
If you do a lot of baking, especially at the holidays, make a big batch for your own pantry. It’s simple and easy to make. It is so much tastier than most vanilla extracts. Instead of vodka, bourbon or rum can be used.
Ingredients:
Organic Vanilla Beans
Swing Top Glass bottle
Instructions:
Cut the vanilla beans in half. Add three vanilla beans to every cup of vodka, bourbon or rum. Close the bottle tightly and allow the vanilla beans to sit in the vodka for four to six months.
Add labels and dates to your bottles. You can get all fancy and print labels that say: Made with love or something like that. Give your vanilla making enterprise a cute name. Have fun and enjoy the gift giving!
