It had been weeks—maybe even months—since I last looked at my bedroom closet with a purpose. Each time I opened the door, it felt like a game of “find the outfit,” sifting through a jumble of clothes I hadn’t worn in ages. So, on a sunny Saturday morning, I decided it was time for the ultimate closet overhaul.
Let’s see what we’re working on in this third week and then continue with my story.
Week 3: Bedroom – Declutter Closet
Go through clothes: donate or toss items you no longer wear.
Organize closet by season, type, or color.
Fold and store away seasonal clothing.
Wipe down dressers and nightstands.
Here’s more of my story, followed by product reviews and links.
I started by pulling everything out, piece by piece. Some clothes made me cringe—why on earth had I held onto that old band tee from high school? And that dress I bought for a party I never ended up going to? Out they went, no questions asked. It was surprisingly freeing to let go of things that no longer fit my style or just weren’t practical anymore.
But as I kept going, I realized how many “what was I thinking?” pieces had snuck in. Those impulse buys that were a little too tight or that bright green sweater I only wore once because it never seemed to match anything else. Slowly but surely, the pile for donation grew.
Then came the more fun part—organizing. I decided to sort my closet by season, so my winter coats and scarves were up front, and my summer dresses were tucked away in the back. It was like rediscovering a whole wardrobe that had been hiding! I even grouped items by color, and for the first time in what felt like forever, I was able to see everything clearly.
Once the clothes were sorted, I tackled the seasonal ones—folding away thick sweaters and turtlenecks into storage bins, making room for the lighter fabrics that were about to come back into rotation. As I folded, I found a pair of leggings I forgot I had, which felt like a small victory.
The last step was cleaning up the surfaces—my dressers and nightstands, which had somehow become catch-all spots for random papers, old receipts, and some change I’d tossed there in a hurry. After a good wipe down, everything felt fresh again.
By the time I was done, I stood in front of my closet and couldn’t believe the transformation. It was like stepping into a new space, one that actually felt organized and reflective of who I am now, not who I was last year or the year before. It felt lighter, more intentional. And, maybe best of all, I now had room for new things—without the clutter!
