Welcome back to our 52-Week Cleaning, Organizing, and Decluttering Challenge! This week, we’re diving into one of the most neglected—but essential—areas of your home: the oven and range hood.
Between daily cooking and those occasional baking marathons, grease and grime can build up fast. But don’t worry—this deep clean will leave your kitchen feeling (and smelling!) fresh in no time.
Your Week 17 Checklist
Week 17: Kitchen – Clean Oven & Range Hood
- Deep clean the oven, stovetop, and oven racks.
- Clean and replace the range hood filter.
- Wipe down the microwave and other small appliances.
- Clean the kitchen sink thoroughly.
1. Deep Clean the Oven, Stovetop & Oven Racks
Remove your oven racks and let them soak in a sink or bathtub filled with warm water and a few drops of dish soap. While they soak:
- Use an **oven cleaning spray** or a **natural paste of baking soda and water** on the inside of your oven. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes before scrubbing.
- For glass oven doors, a scraper tool or a vinegar-soaked cloth can help lift stubborn grime.
- Don’t forget the stovetop—use a degreasing spray and a gentle scrubber to lift grease without scratching.

2. Clean and Replace the Range Hood Filter
Range hoods quietly collect a shocking amount of grease.
- Remove the filter and soak it in hot, soapy water or run it through the dishwasher if it’s dishwasher-safe.
- Wipe down the hood surface and vent area with a degreasing spray.
- If the filter is past its prime, it might be time to replace it.

3. Wipe Down the Microwave and Small Appliances
Give your microwave a steam spa:
- Microwave a bowl of water with lemon slices for 3–5 minutes, then let it sit for another few.
- The steam will loosen grime, making it easy to wipe clean.
Then, tackle your toaster, coffee maker, blender, and other gadgets with disinfectant wipes or a microfiber cloth and all-purpose cleaner.
