Welcome to Week 37 of the 52-Week Cleaning, Organizing & Decluttering Challenge! This week, we’re stepping into your bedroom—specifically, the floor (or closet) where your shoes have multiplied like dust bunnies and your accessories are tangled in a drawer like spaghetti. Let’s fix that!
🥿 Why It Matters:
Shoes and accessories are easy to overlook because we wear them and take them off without thinking twice. But clutter here adds to visual mess, makes getting dressed harder, and honestly, no one needs three broken flip-flops “just in case.”
✅ This Week’s Challenge Tasks:
1. Sort through your shoes.
-
Pull them ALL out—yes, even the ones hiding in your car or garage.
-
Donate any that no longer fit, hurt your feet, or haven’t been worn since the last solar eclipse.
-
Store off-season shoes (think boots in summer, sandals in winter) in clear bins or under-bed organizers.
2. Organize accessories.
-
Corral scarves, hats, belts, and bags.
-
Use hooks, baskets, drawer dividers, or hanging organizers—whatever makes it easy to see what you own.
-
Bonus: you’ll probably rediscover something fabulous you forgot you had!
3. Clean out under-bed storage.
-
Out of sight should NOT mean out of mind.
-
Pull everything out and dust or vacuum under the bed.
-
Sort, toss, or relocate anything that doesn’t belong (we’re looking at you, lone slipper and outdated tax documents).
🏆 Featured Picks
Tribesigns 20‑Pair Shoe Cabinet Amazon affiliate link
This beauty balances form and function—modern white finish, golden legs, and space for ~15–20 pairs behind clean-lined doors. Adjustable shelves make it flexible for sneakers, boots, or flats. It’s easily on display-worthy for an entryway.
VEVOR 2‑Flip‑Drawer Cabinet Walmart affiliate link
A narrow, streamlined pick if you’re short on space but want hidden storage. Budget-friendly and fits sneaker rotation without cluttering the doorway.
SICOTAS Savanna Rattan 24‑Pair Cabinet Amazon affiliate link
Rustic, warm and perfect for earthy or boho decor—holds up to 24 pairs behind rattan-front doors. It hides the sneakers while blending into decor like furniture, not a cubby.
💡 Why you will love them:
-
Hidden storage + sleek design keeps your entryway tidy, even when sneakers are in heavy rotation.
-
Adjustable shelving = flexible fit for boots, chunky sneakers, or flats.
-
Ventilation panels or flip-doors keep shoes smelling fresh and dust-free.
-
Many include anti-tip hardware, which is a must-have around curious kitties like Bella and Murphy.
🧺 Dana’s Tip of the Week:
“If you’re short on storage space, try this: tuck a shoe organizer inside your closet door, or roll scarves and belts into small bins you can stack. Visibility = usability!”
👟 Feeling Good Yet?
Decluttering shoes and accessories gives you a mental boost every time you open your closet—and you might even get out the door faster!
Keep your momentum going and don’t forget to check off this week’s task in your challenge journal. You’re more than halfway through the 52 weeks—and every small win adds up.
👟 Real Talk with Dana: The Sneaker Situation
Confession time: I have a growing pile of favorite sneakers parked by my front door. They’re all in heavy rotation—walking shoes, yardwork shoes, the ones I claim I might jog in someday—but the pile isn’t exactly entryway chic.
I’ve been eyeing a low-profile shoe cabinet that actually looks like furniture. Something that hides the chaos, lets shoes breathe, and doesn’t scream “gym locker.” A sleek cabinet with a few baskets on top could totally transform the space into something welcoming and functional.
If you’re in the same boat (or boot), now’s a great time to think beyond the bedroom and give your front-door footwear a stylish home too.
