5 Beautiful Ways to Decorate Your Home with Nature

Nature is the ultimate designer—think about it: no two leaves are alike, driftwood is basically sculpture straight from the ocean, and moss gives you instant spa vibes without a single candle. If you’ve been craving a little more “outdoors indoors,” here are five DIY-friendly projects that are trending right now. They’re beautiful, budget-friendly, and fun to make!

1. Pressed Flower Frames 🌸

Remember pressing flowers in a heavy book as a kid? Turns out, that’s back in style—but with a chic, modern twist. Frame pressed blooms in floating glass frames for delicate wall art, or group a few smaller frames together for a botanical gallery wall. Bonus: they look amazing against white or earthy-colored walls.

Pressed flowers aren’t just trending—they’re timeless. My great-grandmother made hundreds of them by hand, gifting them to friends and family more than 75 years ago. Today, they’re treasured keepsakes that prove how lasting and meaningful nature-inspired décor can be. This photo from 2002 shows some of her framed press flower artwork on display in my family home.

This pressed flower starter kit from Walmart is a great choice for beginners. Eventually you’ll start saving flowers in between the pages of big, heavy books such as old-fashioned telephone books, catalogs, encyclopedias, etc. Affiliate link https://walmrt.us/45TdFQw

2. Moss Art Panels 🌿

Moss panels (either preserved or faux) are trending in interior design for their texture and calming, green presence. You can make your own mini moss board with just a shadow box frame, preserved moss, and a hot glue gun. Hang it in your home office or bathroom for a touch of indoor zen.

3. Driftwood or Bark Slice Painting 🎨

If you loved painted rocks, this takes it up a notch. Driftwood and bark slices make the perfect “natural canvas.” Paint a landscape, cozy cottage scene, or even abstract patterns on them. Prop them on a shelf, cluster in a tray, or hang as rustic wall art.

Acrylic Paint, 25 Colors 2oz/60ml Bottles. This set of paints did not have a pick up or delivery option so make sure that if you need to pick up or have your order delivered on the same day that the product is available. Walmart affiliate link https://walmrt.us/4kJJYYq

If you don’t have ready access to bark slices, you can purchase them online. Multiple sizes are available. This 20-pack set from Walmart has pre-drilled holes and string for hanging to display. Affiliate link https://walmrt.us/3UJh8vO

4. Upcycled Tin Can Planters 🌱

Thanks to Trader Joe’s viral “Mini Can Foliage” collection, whimsical planters are everywhere. Repurpose vintage tins, tea canisters, or even soup cans as charming homes for succulents and herbs. They’re cute, sustainable, and add instant personality to a windowsill.

5. Rock Painting—Reimagined 🪨

Painted rocks are still one of the easiest (and most satisfying) nature crafts. Try painting mandalas, inspirational words, or seasonal motifs like pumpkins or snowflakes. Display them in bowls, scatter them in your garden, or use as unique paperweights. I love this one, and it never goes out of style.

Here’s an image from one of my rock painting sessions at camp this month. I painted ladybugs! Then I painted a lot of rocks with different base colors so the next time I have a painting session I won’t have to wait for the base coat to dry; I can just start with the decorating!

Why Nature-Inspired Decor Works

Beyond being affordable and eco-friendly, nature-inspired décor makes your home feel grounding, cozy, and personal. Whether you lean toward rustic cottagecore or modern minimalism, these projects let you bring in texture, warmth, and a story—all from things you may already have on hand.

So next time you’re on a walk, look around. That fallen branch, flower, or smooth stone could be your next art piece waiting to happen.

xoxo, Dana  💛
