The Secret to the Best S’mores (Hint: It’s Not the Marshmallow 🍫🔥)

I have to tell you—I never get tired of putting together these tackle boxes filled with S’mores fixings. They’re such a fun way to make an old favorite feel brand new. I’ve given several away as gifts and kept one for myself, because honestly, I couldn’t resist. Every time I open mine, it feels like a treasure chest of sweet possibilities.    

Now here’s a little secret: the real magic of the perfect S’more isn’t in the marshmallow. It’s in the base. Yep, the cookie or cracker you choose makes all the difference. Graham crackers will always be the classic choice, of course. They’re nostalgic and delicious. But if you’ve ever bitten into a S’more and ended up with sticky fingers and a trail of crumbs, you know they can sometimes be a bit high-maintenance.

That’s why I love experimenting with softer bases. A fudge stripe cookie? Heavenly and my favorite. A Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookie? Pure comfort food with melty marshmallow and chocolate on top. The softer texture holds everything together without falling apart, so you can actually enjoy the gooey goodness instead of wearing it.

What you’ll need to create your own S’mores Tackle Box:

• A sturdy tackle box (great for organizing everything in compartments)
• Marshmallow roasting sticks or forks (campfire-specific ones are best)
• Graham crackers
• Marshmallows (the fluffier, the better!)
• Fudge Stripe cookies (a delicious alternative to graham crackers)
