Keto Chaffles: The Bread Swap That Actually Tastes Good
If you’ve been anywhere near the keto world, you’ve probably heard of chaffles. They’re a magical mix of cheese and eggs that somehow manages to mimic bread — and no, I’m not exaggerating.
They’re crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and can be used for everything from breakfast sandwiches to burgers to mini pizzas.

The classic chaffle recipe couldn’t be easier:
- 1 egg
- ½ cup grated cheese (I usually use mozzarella or cheddar)
Mix those together and pour half into a mini waffle maker. Two minutes later — boom — you’ve got yourself a warm, golden chaffle. The recipe makes two, which is perfect for one sandwich or one very happy person.
But at our house, we like to take it a step further. The basic chaffle is great, but I love a version that’s a little more bread-like.
I add a spoonful of almond flour or another gluten-free flour, plus a pinch of baking powder to help it rise. It’s still low-carb, but the texture feels more like toast or a bun — perfect when you’re craving something comforting but don’t want to break your healthy streak.
You can make them savory or sweet depending on what you mix in. Try:
A sprinkle of garlic powder and Italian herbs for a sandwich base.
A dash of cinnamon and a touch of sweetener for a “breakfast waffle.”
Or go all out and make pizza chaffles — top with sauce, cheese, and pepperoni!
If you’ve never made them, this might be your sign to pull out your mini waffle maker. They’re quick, versatile, and totally satisfying — no keto deprivation here!
