Clean that floor!

Share your tips to get rid of ants in the house

Guest Writer

As I was about to start the garage sale challenge this weekend, I noticed teeny tiny black ants on the floor in the basement!

I could not find their entrance into the basement. I’d wipe an area and the paper towel would have multiple ants on it. I’d go about wiping along other areas in the basement and when I returned to the first place I wiped, there were more ants.

BASEMENT IS CLEAN

There is no food in the basement. It is where we toss our laundry until wash day. The damp towels on the floor had a few ants on them.

The scary thing is that when I washed those towels and took them out of the dryer, I saw an ant still moving on one of the towels!

I spent a good part of my day washing floors and vacuuming. I ended up doing a lot more cleaning today than working on the garage sale challenge.

POISON SPRAY VERSUS ESSENTIAL OILS

I have a spray can of ant killer to use both indoors and outdoors. I sprayed as little of it as possible since I don’t like poisonous chemicals. It’s supposed to kill ants on contact but it is not as quick as that!

A little while ago today I googled “tiny black ants in house” and found that essential oils can be used to repel ants and borax can be used to kill ants.

I am out of the peppermint and tea tree oils and I don’t have any Borax, so it’s off to the store.
