Challenge Week 12: Deep cleaning the bathroom!

We do a lot of important stuff in the bathroom! That’s why it needs to be cleaned every day. But occasionally you should “deep clean” it: remove everything from the bathroom counters, walls, floor, open shelves and dust or wash. Vacuum if you have installed carpets or wash your bathmat in the washing machine (laundromat if it’s big and heavy).

REMOVE STUFF/DO LAUNDRY

Remove all the stuff from countertop and floors so you can get into all the crevices when cleaning. Throw anything washable into the laundry including towels, rugs, and shower curtains.

DUST/WIPE DOWN SURFACES

Don’t forget to wipe down the light fixtures before they get too hot.

SHOWER / TUB

The steam cleaner can remove soap scum build-up! Replace grout / caulk as needed.

BLINDS / CURTAINS / WINDOWS / MIRRORS

Use sponge brushes to clean window tracks. Spray cleaning mixture on blinds and wipe. Curtains should go in the wash.

COUNTERTOPS & SHELVES

Use your steam cleaner and wipe dry.

TOILET

Use the steam cleaner on the outside of the toilet bowl and use a scrub brush and cleaning solution inside the bowl.

FLOOR / BASEBOARD / HEATER

The steam cleaner can be used on all these items if you have a baseboard heater with no electrical parts.

TIPS:

Gather cleaning supplies before you start and keep them nearby. If you can dedicate a cupboard in the bathroom for cleaning supplies, do it! Saved steps = less time cleaning! Natural products are best so try vinegar and baking soda based products. Did you know that eucalyptus is a natural deodorizer? Keep some in the bathroom (out of reach of the kids and pets, of course).
